What are some of the strangest memories you have as a child?

I can lay in bed at night and sometimes weird random memories will crop up out of nowhere and it just gives me that sorta creepy feeling. Like not bad but like, how and why did I even remember this? Like, am I falling into a demented state and I’m starting to relive all of my old memories? I dunno… I just know that some of them are funny. Some have no beginning or end, just an image of something that happened. So, I thought I’d share a few of my random memories. These are in no particular order of age. But most of them are probably between the ages of 4 and, well, ok late teens early 20s.
(shhh! I’m 60!)
In either first or second grade, I remember the layout of the classroom well. We had a long bench like table and occasionally someone would come in with an animal for us kids to look at. One of these times it was a white goose or a duck. I remember that bird shitting all over my forearm.
Same classroom. I can recall one of the kid’s name being called out by the teacher and the kid freaked out. Started screaming and crying because he thought he had to get a shot. All the teacher wanted him to do was go get the milk’s from the cafeteria.
I remember wanting to be called Renee Vetee. Yeah, I dunno.
In Kindergarten, if I remember right. I swear I got blamed for overflowing the toilet with toilet paper. Like I can see the stall and the wads of toilet paper in it but I don’t know if I did it or not and I can sense the teacher behind me.
My mother went on a vacation with her friend so I stayed with my grandparents. I missed my mom so I wrote a letter to her. At the age I was, I didn’t understand how the mail system worked. I wrote something (can’t remember what), tied a pretty rock I found to the letter and stuck it in the mailbox. I was devasted when the mailman didn’t take it the next day.
First or second grade – we had to walk by other classrooms to go to the lunch cafeteria. We had “lunch tickets” that got punched for each day of the week. Our classroom was the first to walk past the other classrooms and I held up my lunch ticket as we were walking past as if to say “we’re going to lunch and you’re not” kinda of thing… and I walked into the corner of the wall. Gave myself a really nice shiner! Embarrassing.
I’m an Emetophobic, I took the school bus to school. A kid puked on the bus and I freaked out. Got off at the next stop and took someone elses bus. I never caught that bus again. I was afraid the puke was still there.
Age 5 or 6, maybe 7. I somehow managed to catch a baby squirrel and brought it into the house to show my mother. I remember she was doing the dishes and that baby squirrel ran all up and down the counter and fell into the sink full of suds. Pretty sure she got the poor thing out but all I remember is the frantic and comedic image of that baby squirrel leaping and running to get away.
Silly Putty. Remember that stuff? I had a glow in the dark one and I played with it at night in bed, stretching it and squishing it. One night I was playing with it and fell asleep. The next morning I couldn’t find my silly putty anywhere. It was just …. gone! I went days looking for it and couldn’t find it. For every single day it was missing was me thinking I ate it in my sleep! I was panicked but couldn’t tell my mother. I think a week went by and I threw on the same nightgown I had worn before and sure enough that silly putty was stuck to my nightgown. The sheer relief I felt knowing I didn’t eat it after all.
My mother used to drop me off at my Aunt’s house when she went to work. Can’t recall my age, or it was summer time and there was no school. But she dropped me off and I walked up the side of the house to the back door and knocked on the glass pane. I remember knocking and the glass shattering from it. What happened after is a lost memory.
I could keep adding and adding all these random memories like this but this is meant to be a short read. haha.
Please feel free to share a random weird memory from your childhood. I would love to hear them!
